What If We Treated Sleep Like a Caregiving Act?

Why I’m Building a Sleep Concierge for Aging Adults

Sleep has always been a barometer in my life—for resilience, for healing, and for clarity. But recently, I started asking a deeper question:

What happens when sleep becomes fragile?
Not just for us—but for the people we love who are aging, forgetting, and quietly struggling.

That question led me to Mary.

Mary isn’t real. But she’s everywhere.
She’s 66, a retired teacher, and a full-time caregiver for her husband with Parkinson’s. She’s starting to forget things—missed a bill, lost her keys twice this week—but brushes it off.

Because Mary doesn’t have time to break.
And she sure as hell doesn’t have time to download another app, juggle a CPAP dashboard, or read a white paper on sleep stages.

But Mary needs help. And not the kind that makes her feel broken.
She needs a gentle, human-first tool that meets her where she is.
Something that says:

“Let’s make your next night a little easier.”
“You’re not alone.”
“You matter, too.”

The Big Shift: Sleep as Care, Not Just Data

We have endless sleep trackers. But very few sleep allies.
We focus on stats—REM, HRV, deep sleep—when what many older adults need is simply:

  • A voice that calms.
  • A check-in that doesn’t overwhelm.
  • A plan that respects both memory and dignity.

I’m building the Care Ally Sleep Concierge to do just that.

It’s not about chasing optimization.
It’s about restoring agency—for people with mild cognitive impairment, for overwhelmed caregivers, and for those quietly navigating aging and fear.

Why Now: The Hidden Epidemic

Sleep disturbances are an early warning sign of cognitive decline.
And yet most interventions are reactive, fragmented, or deeply clinical.

We can do better.
We can make it personal.
We can meet people where they are—whether they’re tech-wary, gadget-curious, or simply exhausted.

Invitation to Follow or Collaborate

Right now, I’m building the first version with a simple question in mind:
How can we make sleep feel safe again?

I’ll be sharing more in the coming weeks, including early concepts, user stories, and how this might evolve into a companion service that supports family members, too.

If this resonates with you—if you’ve walked this path with a parent, partner, or even yourself—I’d love to connect.

“Sleep better. Think clearer. Age wisely.”
